Vestibular disorders are common and can affect people of all ages.
Most often caused by:
- Head trauma (motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries)
- Inner ear infections
- Illness or disease
- Certain medications
BPPV is the most common cause of vertigo (the sensation that the world is spinning). It’s usually set off by specific head movements such as:
- Rolling over in bed, often with one side being worse
- Getting into/out of bed
- Bending over
- Tipping your head back to look up
- Quick head movement
- If BPPV is present , a series of gentle head movements (Epley Maneuver ) can usually resolve the problem immediately.
